Doin' it for the kids

Do we need any other reason?

Why Did We Volunteer?

Just ask some of our 43......

“This is a brilliant opportunity to make a tangible difference in an area that requires a facility.” Diane Riley.

“This is something I have always wanted to do – the combination of Africa, education and charity work.” Christina Petrides.

“I love Africa and wanted the chance to live as part of the local community in Tofo and do something useful rather than being ‘on business’ or ‘a tourist’.” Becky Humphrey.

“I had already been thinking about volunteering and I was looking at available options when this project came up so I jumped at the chance!” Trina Chan.

“This project will give me the opportunity to spend a complete month in an area that will allow me to experience its culture and life style not just as a tourist.” Jack Symmons.

Training Day

A training day in London was hosted by Quest on the 29th March, Scott Wilson Millennium Projects partner for the project, which gave volunteers the opportunity to meet their fellow team members and learn about their African adventure. The day covered cultural awareness, responsible tourism, travel safety, health, kit and equipment and a background to Mozambique and the local community. The volunteers’ construction skills were put to the test in the teamwork challenge when they were tasked with constructing a tower to support the weight of an egg using only spaghetti and jelly babies! Some teams did better than others… At least the June group know how to make a mean scrambled egg.

So now most of us have met and the project is very much a real proposition. May team you have 2 weeks and counting. Good luck with those foundations.
